UVScan is a specialized tool designed for the visualization of skin damage and aging caused by ultraviolet (UV) light exposure. By analyzing images from your iPhone’s or iPod’s photo library or integrated camera, UVScan offers insights into how ultraviolet light affects your skin's health.

Prolonged exposure to sunlight and artificial tanning environments can significantly contribute to premature skin aging and chronic damage, with potential risks including skin cancer. Preventative measures such as seeking shade, wearing protective clothing, and applying sunscreen can help mitigate these harmful effects.

The application identifies areas of skin damage, represented as darker regions in the analysis. It also highlights the presence of fine wrinkles in facial areas, which serve as indicators of skin that has prematurely aged due to UV exposure. Optimal results from this analysis are typically observed 24 to 48 hours following intense sun exposure.

For accurate assessments, the application requires images to be captured under favorable lighting conditions, avoiding extreme contrasts of brightness and darkness. Users of the iPhone 4 are recommended to take photographs from approximately 4 inches (10 centimeters) away. Side angles are advised for cheek and nose shots, while frontal images should be used for forehead assessments. Utilizing the integrated flash on the iPhone 4 can further enhance image quality, improving the accuracy of the analysis.
